The creator of The Simpsons and Futurama has been working on the series development for the past 18 months, with Netflix announcing today it had picked up a 20-episode order for the show’s first and second season.
Taking place in a crumbling medieval kingdom called Dreamland, the series follows the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses and human fools.
The voice cast will be led by Abbi Jacobsen (Broad City) as Bean, Nat Faxon (Blaze and the Monster Machines) as Elfo, and Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show) as Luci. Also on board are Futurama stars John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille and David Herman, Freak Like Tennessee star Jeny Batten, and our four delightful TVO regulars.
Animation is being handled by Rough Draft Studios, who were previously responsible for Futurama, and Groening told reporters that: “Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
We can’t wait. The show will appear on Netflix in 2018, and we’ll bring you more news as we get it.
