Inside the Maze: A closer look at James Dillon’s new look Crystal Maze
The Crystal Maze is officially back on our screens, following Friday’s launch special, in which a team of celebs led by Alex Brooker (The Last Leg) won £10,000 in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

The series, hosted by Richard Ayoade, has another hidden TVO talent behind the scenes: as original designer James Dillon has returned for the new look Maze. And now the show has aired, we can give you a closer look inside.
Dillon, of course, is best known to TVO readers as the man who brought The Mighty Boosh and Luxury Comedy to life – charged with getting the increasingly madcap ideas of Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt onto screens. Across a long and varied career, Dillon has also designed sets for Taskmaster, Not Going Out, Russell Howard’s Good News, 15 Stories High, Gimme Gimme Gimme, The Royle Family, Game On, The Thin Blue Line, The Unpleasant World of Penn & Teller, Fantasy Football League, Dempsey & Makepeace, Canon & Ball, The Goodies and Metal Mickey!

So it comes as no surprise that, with such stellar credentials, the original Maze Master, who designed every set on the original run between 1990 and 1995, would be back for more this time around. And you can see his beautiful new designs – a contemporary update of his original masterpieces – below.
And don’t forget, The Crystal Maze returns for two more celebrity specials on Friday nights, before a brand new regular series begins in the Autumn. And with both Jessica Hynes and Adam Buxton set to make guest appearances, you’d be mad to miss them. Special #2 will see Scarlett Moffatt, Steve Jones, David Coulthard, Jodie Kid and Joey Essex try to collect crystals for cash, while the following week they’ll be superseeded by Rylan Clarke, Jermaine Jenas, Adil Ray, Tamara Wall and Joel Dommett.
