QI: A to G to DVD

The first seven seasons of smash-hit panel show QI have been released on DVD.

The long-running show, in which three guests and regular panelist Alan Davies have to find the most interesting answers to unusual – and everyday – questions, has now been running for for an incredible 14 years, and while previous attempts to release the show on DVD have begun, new distributors Network are clearly approaching the task of documenting the show from the very beginning with sheer gusto.

Originally presented by Stephen Fry (until the last series, ‘N’, in which Sandi Toksvig took over), only the first three series, a compilation of the seventh, and the full eighth and ninth series have previously been released on DVD, with rights issues preventing further releases. However, Network have taken the bold step of releasing two box-sets, with Volume 1 covering the first four series (A to D), and Volume 2 covering the following, longer three series (E to G).

Whilst these early runs offer up some fantastic guest panelists, only three TVO regulars crop up across the series. Doon Mackichan makes two appearances, while Vic Reeves crops up in four editions, and Jessica Hynes (then Stevenson) appeared in one edition during the fourth series.

However, if these sets sell well, they’ll no doubt pave the way for more releases in the coming years, and that means that appearances by Katy BrandNoel FieldingGraham LinehanAisling BeaMatt Lucas and Cariad Lloyd could be yours to own before too long. And besides, how many other boxsets manage to look great on your shelf, whilst filling your head with knowledge and letting you see great comedians make you laugh all at once?

You can order Volume 1 by clicking here, and Volume 2 by clicking here. And whilst we’re on the subject of QI, the fifteenth series is currently filming, and confirmed guests for the series so far include Sally Philips, Aisling Bea, Noel Fielding and Cariad Lloyd. We’ll bring you transmission details as soon as we get them, so stay peeled.
