Shiny Button Productions – the team behind Onion flavoured smash-hit Murder in Successville – is to make a new sitcom for ITV2.

Action Team will be a spoof spy action-thriller following a top-secret team of British secret agents charged with saving the world. Tom Davis will star alongside TVO regular Jim Howick, #HoodDocumentary‘s Kayode Ewumi and The Detectorists’ Laura Checkley.

Written by Davis and director James De Frond, ITV’s commissioner Saskia Schuster described the show as: “The Naked Gun meets The Bourne Identity” and a “high octane, big scale comedy. Fast paced, high concept and crammed with silly jokes.”

Tom Davis added: “Every year I sit there as the bookies predict who they think will play the next James Bond and I’m always left off the list, so I’ve decided to do something about it.”

Shiny Button operates as an independent production label within Tiger Aspect Productions, under the banner of parent company Endemol Shine U.K. The label is spearheaded by the trio behind the sublime Murder in Successville: actor/writer Tom Davis (Prevenge, Cockroaches), director/producer James De Frond (Very Important People, The Morgana Show) and producer Andrew Brereton (Crackanory).

It aims to develop and produce original TV and feature film content, working with both emerging and established comedic partners in Britain and the U.S. Action Team will air on ITV2 in early 2018, and we can’t wait to see it!
