Yanking (Again)
4 whole years ago we wrote about the ABC network in America buying the rights to the UK comedy series, Pulling; however, sadly it never got beyond a pilot. Now the US is having another crack at adapting Sharon Horgan’s mid-00’s comedy.
The NBC network is developing its own version, described as a “contemporary re-conception of the beloved format,” with Sharon and co-writer Dennis Kelly as executive producers.
This is the third time the US has tried to recreate Pulling, following previous attempts in 2009 and 2013 by rival network ABC. Kelly, Sharon and her US production partner Aaron Kaplan worked on these too. Writing duo Wendy & Lizzie Molyneux will also be working on the latest remake.
Sharon’s star is currently burning brightly in the States; Catastrophe is currently streaming on Amazon, Divorce, which she wrote and which stars Sarah Jessica Parker, is on HBO, and Fox has just commissioned a full series of Bad Sugar from her. Let’s hope that it’s third time lucky for Pulling USA.
