Yvonne more for Oberman
Tracy Ann Oberman has once again revived her Doctor Who character Yvonne Hartman in the latest Torchwood audio play from Big Finish.
The Torchwood Archive is a special feature-length story celebrating the tenth anniversary of the spin-off series, and reunites most of the show’s original cast of John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Lloyd, Naoko Mori, Indira Varma, Kai Owen and Tom Price. Only Burn Gorman, who has since gone on to roles in The Dark Knight and Game of Thrones, is absent, but fortunately, Yvonne Hartman is a more than acceptable substitute!
For the uninitated, Hartman was introduced in the two-part Doctor Who story Army of Ghosts/Doomsday in June 2006. Head of the Torchwood Institute’s HQ in Greenwich, Hartman was – spoiler alert – lost in the battle between Daleks and Cybermen, as the latter began converting the locals!
Oberman previously revived the character for the one-off audioplay One Rule last year, in an adventure set prior to Doomsday. This new special episode, The Torchwood Archive, takes a different approach.
Written by original series writer James Goss, the titular Archive is a forgotten asteroid in the centre of a great war, providing a complete history of the Institute from its distant beginnings, stored at the very furthest limits of the British Empire. Jeremiah (Richie Campbell) is its first visitor in many centuries. He’s come to learn something very important. And the ghosts of Torchwood are waiting for him.
Also featuring Rowena Cooper, Doctor Who veteran Lisa Bowerman, Plebs star Ryan Sampson and acting legend David Warner, the drama is available on CD and Download now exclusively from Big Finish, and is expected to go on general release in the new year. You can pick it up over yonder now, and listen to the trailer below.
