Red Dwarf Returns

The ‘Boys from the Dwarf’ are back on our screens in September and TVO is naturally getting excited!

Red Dwarf XI

Red Dwarf XI UKTV

We’ve always been big fans of the cult sci-fi favourite, which began back in 1988. But after Colin Hoult appeared in Series X, Red Dwarf landed on TVO’s radar for a whole new reason, and we are happy to confirm that series XI will feature more well-known TVO faces.

It’s too early to tell you exactly who to expect in the new series, but we think regular readers and hardcore Peelers will be pleasantly surprised! Of course the original cast – Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn – will be back as Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten, too.

There will be a live screening of some of the episodes on 12 September at BAFTA, but this sold out in hours. There is a waiting list for spare tickets, so if you are keen you can join up here.

UKTV channel Dave, which coproduces and airs the show, has confirmed the episode titles and running order for the new series, which you can see below the in-series image below:

The Dwarfers find themselves in an alternative version of America where modern technology is prohibited, making Rimmer and Kryten illegal. The Dwarfers infiltrate the tech savvy underground and try to bring down the authoritarian regime.

When the Dwarfers investigate a crashed ship at the bottom of an ocean moon, Lister and Cat become trapped together and Lister’s nightmare begins. Meantime Rimmer and Kryten discover the ship is controlled by a dark force.

After an altercation with a deranged droid Lister has his kidneys organ-napped. The only solution is to ask Cat, the most selfish creature in the universe, to give him one of his.

After a scandalous piece of good fortune Rimmer saves the life of a bio-printed Captain and is promoted, fulfilling his life-long dream of becoming an Officer. He immediately opens an Officer’s club, which is out-of-bounds to the lower orders, and uses the bio-printer to fill it with versions of himself.

Kryten has a mid-life crisis and changes his body cover from Mech grey to Ferrari red. The posse try to show him how much he’s achieved in life by taking him to visit a mechanoid from his old fleet.

Cat takes time off from being in love with himself to fall head over heels in love with a lady Cat with a big secret.

So there they are. We will let you know as soon as we have the actual broadcast dates, and when we can tell you which TVO faces are appearing in the series!

EDIT: The series will start on Dave on 22nd September at 9pm, and for those who can access UKTV Play – the first episode will be available from 15th September!

As an extra note for all you Smeggies out there: Those of you heading to Edinburgh this year can see Norman ‘Holly’ Lovett in Entertaining Moaner from Tuesday 16th to Sunday 28th at Dragonfly in Edinburgh. Tickets in advance £8 from here, or take your chances on the night and ‘pay what you want’.
