Pern returns in January

Brian Pern returns to our screens on January 14th, and there’s a brand new trailer to savour below.

The third series – 45 Years in Prog and Roll – once again features the hapless prog-rock ‘star’ played by Simon Day from creators Day and Rhys Thomas as we catch up on what’s been happening in Pern’s life since we saw him last, and his attempts to restart his flagging career.

With a new album, a new tour and a new wife (the magnificent Surrane Jones), the “award-winning filmmaker Rhys Thomas OBE” has access to all areas – and the results are as hilarious as ever.

Along for the ride once more are Michael Kitchen as Pern’s shrewd manager John Farrow, Lucy Montgomery as eccentric singer Pepita, and Paul Whitehouse and Nigel Havers as his former Thotch bandmates Pat Quid and Tony Pebblé. Confirmed guest stars include Martin Freeman, Christopher Eccleston, Martin Kemp, Chas and Dave, and John Thomson – and there are more surprises along the way too!

The first episode airs Thursday 14th January on BBC Four, and we can now confirm that all three series – 2014’s The Life of Rock, with Brian Pern, 2015’s Brian Pern: A Life in Rock and 2016’s Brian Pern: 45 Years in Prog and Roll will be released on DVD in the new year, alongside a wodge of bonus material. Bring it on!
