Those of you who love a good old historical action adventure B-movie are in luck: Richard the Lionheart: Rebellion is released this week on DVD and VOD.
Starring Derek Allen as King Henry II, with his sons Henry the Young, Geoffrey and the titular Richard played by Andrea Ziro, Marco Naggar and Greg Chandler Maness respectively, the film follows the three sons revolt against their father over the future of the empire, and the safety of their mother, Queen Eleanor (Debbie Rochon).
The film is a sequel to the 2013 film, Richard the Lionheart, which featured the legendary Malcolm McDowell, and by this point you’re probably wondering why we’re telling you all of this.
Fear not: cast your minds back to March, and we told you that actor, presenter and stand-up comedian Neil Cole was appearing in the film as a character known only as ‘Captain’.
As Neil himself reported on Twitter at the time: “Finished filming such an epic battle scene today, I half expected an ewok party at the end of it.”
Regular readers will need no introduction to Neil’s work, but for our newcomers, he’s a semi-regular Boosh collaborator, first appearing with Fielding, Barratt & Fulcher in Psycho Vertigo Disco back in 1998; while his 2011 Edinburgh show Neil By Mouth was directed by Dave Brown. In more recent years, he was a founder member of The Pros From Dover alongside Richard Glover and Phil Whelans, and in recent years, has been presenting for Ginx, Le Mans 24 Hours and Man vs Ride.
Long story short, Neil’s amazing, and reason enough to give this film a go – so you can pick it up for the bargain price of £7.99 via The Velvet Onion Amazon Store now, or if you prefer, go digital. You can also take a look at the trailer, in which Neil looks like he’s in trouble at 1:15, below.
