Entitled Deep Breath, the episode marks the full debut of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth (proper) incarnation of The Doctor, alongside returning co-star Jenna Colman as Clara Oswald.
Wheatley – whose TVO credentials include his films A Field in England, Sightseers, Kill List and Down Terrace – has directed two episodes for the new series, including this opening episode, which features a cameo appearance by his regular collaborator Tony Way.
Also along for the ride this year in a later episode is Michael Smiley, who joins other big name guest stars Keeley Hawes, Frank Skinner and Foxes in the twelve-episode run.
We’ll bring you more news as we get it, but in the meantime, here’s a lovely new teaser trailer to keep your appetites whetted.
