Katy Brand has been confirmed to appear in a forthcoming BBC adaptation of the comic drama by EF Benson, Mapp And Lucia.
Steve Pemberton has written the 3-part adaptation – about the notorious social rivals Miss Elizabeth Mapp and Mrs Emmeline ‘Lucia’ Lucas. The story celebrates and lampoons the snobberies and pretensions of small-town life. It takes place over the summer of 1930, when Lucia decides to take a holiday in the charming historic town of Tilling.
Brand will play the part of Hermione Pillson, and she is joined by an A-list cast which includes Miranda Richardson, Anna Chancellor and Mark Gatiss. Steve Pemberton also stars.
Gatiss has said of the project: “EF Benson’s tales of life in Tilling are some of the most sly, funny and waspishly brilliant stories in the language. It’s an absolute treat to be joining my old friend Steve and such a glorious cast to bring them to life. Quai hai!”
Filming will take place in Rye, Sussex this summer, which was Benson’s home between wars and his template for Mapp And Lucia’s battleground. The show is scheduled for broadcast on BBC1; we’ll let you know when we hear any more about the production.
