The nominations for the 2013 Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards have been announced, and they include TVO’s Aisling Bea!
Bea, who won last year’s So You Think You’re Funny competition in Edinburgh after appearing in Dead Boss on our telly screens has been nominated in the category of Best Newcomer for her debut full length Edinburgh show, C’Est La Bea.
She’ll be competing alongside John Kearns, Liam Williams, Matt Okine & Romesh Ranganathan. All great comics, but naturally, we’re pinning our hopes on Aisling, somewhat!
Sadly, there are no other TVO related nominations in the Main Prize category in what has been a dry year for Onion Land up in Edinburgh, but the ceremony takes place on Saturday, and will be presided over by one Steve Coogan, no less.
Coogan, of course, won the main prize when it was known as the Perrier Award back in 1992, an award which was later won by Garth Marenghi’s Netherhead in 2001. The Best Newcomer Award, which Aisling is nominated for, was given to Waen Shepherd as Gary Le Strange back in 2003, and five years earlier belonged to a certain duo known as The Mighty Boosh.
Great company to be in, we’re sure you agree, and we wish Miss Bea every ounce of good will and love we can. Good luck… you deserve it!
In related news, last week, Aisling turned up on BBC Radio 1, and the mini-set was filmed and put on YouTube, and you can see it below.
