Gary Le Strange’s Glamoronica
The Velvet Onion is pleased to announce that tomorrow will see the impromptu release of some rare material from Gary Le Strange – aka comedy legend Waen Shepherd.
It’s now ten years since Le Strange debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, bagging the Perrier Award that year for Polaroid Suitcase. To celebrate, Waen has reissued the first two Gary albums digitally over the last few months, with Polaroid Suitcase being followed by Face Academy earlier this year.
Ahead of the reissue of the third Le Strange album, Waen has taken a bit of a sidestep and revisited unfinished material which was discarded ahead of that final show and record, Beef Scarecrow back in 2005.
Entitled Glamoronica, the six track EP features music recorded eight years ago, with freshly minted vocal takes from a revitalised Gary, who is currently working on new material. As Waen explains: “It’s a kind of old-new hybrid. Basically it’s about 50% of what Gary’s third album might have been if I hadn’t abandoned it halfway through.”
The EP will be available on various digital platforms from midnight tonight, including Amazon and iTunes. We’ll bring you full links when we can, but for now, pre-order via Amazon here!
Keen eyed peelers may also have spotted Shepherd in this week’s edition of Count Arthur Strong – which can be seen again on iPlayer now. You can see a classic, Stewart Lee directed promo for a classic track from Face Academy below…
