Fresh Wheatley Unearthed

Hot on the heels of the Sightseers DVD and blu-ray release, as we all wait impatiently to see A Field In England, two new ways to catch a taste of Ben Wheatley’s directorial prowess have emerged, and they are as typically eclectic as you can expect from the reigning King of British Cinema.

If you have somehow managed to avoid the Go Compare ad’s – you know, the one’s with the really annoying opera singer? – then you really have been living under a rock.

Thankfully, Gio Compario has become far less irritating in the new advert, with the help of our very own Mr Wheatley.

Directed by Ben, the new 30 second advert shows the mascot presenting his colleagues with a brand new advertising idea.  Have a look at the results below…

This is obviously quite a far cry from Ben’s recent directoral roles, including his U is for Unearthed short in the 26-part anthology The ABC’s of Death. Made by Drafthouse Films – the same company that brought us Four Lions – the film shows 26 different ways it’s possible to die.

From the likely, to the fantastical, to the quite frankly absurd, using a real mash-up of styles and formats.  It’s definitely one for the horror fans amongst you, and TVO will be awaiting it’s UK cinema release on Friday, April 26th. You can see the trailer by clicking on the word Drafthouse, but be warned – it is definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK!

If you’d rather hide behind the cushions in your own home, you can pre-order the DVD and Blu-ray from the TVO Amazon store, due for release June 3rd.
