A Field In England

Ben Wheatley‘s rise as one of the country’s leading directors continues with the announcement of his next project, A Field In England – which again features some familiar faces from the realm of Booshdom.

The director of SightseersKill List and Down Terrace is to shoot the English Civil War drama with a difference – which will tell the story of a group of deserters who flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. When they are captured by two men, they are forced to help in an alchemist’s search to find a hidden treasure he believes is buried in the field.

Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group descends into a chaos of fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

Written by Wheatley and regular collaborator Amy Jump – the film stars TVO’s very own Julian Barratt and Richard Glover alongside Psychoville‘s Reece Shearsmith and Kill List star Michael Smiley.  Ideal actor Ryan Pope and Snow White & The Huntsman‘s Peter Ferdinando round out the ensemble cast, which begins shooting later this month.

The film is a collaboration between Rook Films and Film4.0 – the digital strand of Film4, ahead of Wheatley’s first US project, monster thriller Freakshift.  We hope to bring you more details of this exciting project, as soon as we hear of them.

The Sightseers, meanwhile, is set for UK cinema release on November 30th – you can view it’s trailer below.  Ben’s previous work, including Kill List, Down Terrace, The Wrong Door and Steve Coogan: The Inside Story is available now from our official Amazon UK and Amazon US stores.
