Madcap Manchester

Yesterday saw Noel Fielding and Dave Brown undertake a mammoth signing session in Manchester to celebrate the release of Scribblings Of A Madcap Shambleton.

The duo arrived at Waterstones in Manchester Arndale around noon, and immediately launched into a live art display, painting a fantastical new logo on the front window.  After a brief break, they then signed copies of the book for over 400 people for FIVE HOURS solid, rounding off proceedings literally minutes before the store closed at 7pm.

TVO was on hand to document proceedings, and spoke to a number of truly lovely fans in the queue – many of whom had brought all sorts of fantastic entries to the Design A Scribbling competition we told you about last week.

We took literally hundreds of photographs, and recorded hours of video footage, and we’ll be bringing you a full breakdown of the event later this week once we’ve had chance to sort through it all!

There are a few teaser snippets below, and we’ll be bringing you all the juicy details, including photographs of lots of you awesome people, very soon.  Stay peeled!

In the meantime, fantastic horror writer Sam Stone was also signing copies of her books in store yesterday, and she posted on her blog about meeting Noel & Dave in the green room.  Check it out over yonder!

  4. Was at the signing yesterday (as a competiton winner!) and it was simply the best-day-ever!! Noel and Dave were just charming and lovely,as was expected (a dream come true to meet them!) and Paul, from TVO, was on hand at all times and was so helpful and lovely,it really added to the overall excellence of the day! To make the day even better (which I hadn’t believed possible) Dave later Tweeted a pic of the snowglobe I made for Noel, exclaiming ‘Gift of the day’! Too chuffed for words! The Velvet Onion, you rock! Thank you!! X

  5. It really was worth the wait. It was very well organised – even the security people were friendly! The live painting was such a highlight – the comic commentary that was provided by Mr Fielding was random, inventive and very amusing. He interacted with the audience and ad-libbed brilliantly! The Fielding/Brown pairing was just so lovely and natural – you can tell they are really good friends as well as being creative collaborators. They did work so tirelessly – it must have been such a massive strain to keep at it and be so polite and friendly all day – plus the physical business of constantly signing books. True stars, totally deserving of any success they have.
