Wondering what to spend your hard-earned cash on? Well there are two Booshniverse-relevant DVD releases you may want to investigate: Submarine and The Crimson Petal & The White.

Submarine will need no introduction to our regular peelers – Richard Ayoade’s debut feature launched in UK and US cinemas to phenomenal critical acclaim (and you can read our review here). The film is released on DVD and Blu-ray on 1st August, and both formats can be pre-ordered now from The Velvet Onion amazon store (£9.99 for the DVD, £12.99 for Blu-ray).  Special features include:

  • Audio Commentary with director Richard Ayoade, author of the original novel Joe Dunthorne and Director of Photography Erik Wilson
  • Cast and Crew Q&As
  • Alex Turner’s Piledriver Waltz Music Video
  • Through The Prism with Graham T. Purvis
  • Cast and Crew Interviews, Ben Stiller Message, Deleted Scenes, Extended Scenes, Test Shoot, Trailer

The Crimson Petal and the White is a four-part BBC drama that features Chris O’Dowd in very non-IT Crowd form. O’Dowd plays the part of Victorian gent William Rackham, who falls for an alluring and intelligent young prostitute. Beautifully shot and brilliantly acted, this drama generated a lot of positive coverage when it aired on TV earlier this year. Thoroughly recommended!

The DVD contains special features including interviews and deleted scenes, and you can buy it from The Velvet Onion amazon store for the bargain price of £14.99.
