Become A Scribbling!

© Canongate Books Ltd.

October sees the release of Scribblings of a Madcap Shambleton – the collection of Noel Fielding‘s art being prepared by Noel and Dave Brown right now.

We’re sure Boosh fans worldwide are dying to own a copy, and thanks to gentlemen Brown & Fielding, TVO peelers could be in with a chance to be in it!

Simply send a passport style photograph of yourself – [By this they mean, head and shoulders like you’d do for your passport, nothing more, nothing less – you can smile if you want to!] – to scribblings@thevelvetonion.com by 00:01 on Monday June 13th (last thing Sunday night!) for a chance to be included in Noel’s book in some way, shape or form that will have to remain top secret for now.

Try to ensure your photograph is passport style – with a white background, and a shot of your head & shoulders only, just like Dave’s photograph here.

The aim is to create a piece which will hopefully feature inside Scribblings of a Madcap Shambleton, provided the work can be completed in time for Dave & Noel’s looming deadline.

The Boosh Boys can’t guarantee the piece will make it into the first edition of book, but if it doesn’t, they will be aiming to get it out there in some way further down the line – possibly as a TVO exclusive, so stay peeling to find out more info.

We must stress that it may not happen at all – but they’ve had an idea and want to see what kind of response they get, as well as how much time it takes before they can commit to it going in… but let see how resilient they – and you! – are, shall we?

Naturally, this is a competition of sorts, and we cannot guarantee that every entry we receive will be included in the book – but this is a chance to quite possibly become part of the scribblings for all eternity.  For full terms & conditions, see the small print.

If you’d like to preorder a copy of Scribblings of a Madcap Shambelton, it is available now in The Velvet Onion Amazon Store and will be available on October 6th.  TVO hopes to bring you more news on the shiny things nearer the time.

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENTRIES!

All photographs MUST be sent to scribblings@thevelvetonion.com by 00:01 on Monday June 13th 2011.  ONE photograph per person only, or your entry will be disqualified.  The Velvet Onion will not accept entries as comments on this article, replies on our Facebook/Twitter pages, messages on our forum or emailed to any other account.   No personal information required, and your emails will not be passed on to a third party.  Submission of a photograph does not equate to confirmation of inclusion in Noel Fielding & Dave Brown’s book.  Though you retain the copyright on the original image, by entering this competition you agree to waive the usage rights for your photograph to Noel Fielding, Dave Brown and Canongate Books Ltd, and can make no claim to the finished piece as printed or uploaded digitally.  TVO reserves the right to withdraw this competition if any overriding issues arise.  There is no monetary value to this competition and no physical prize.

  1. “passport style”.
Does this limit us to a passport style facial expression?

  5. So will more than one entry be picked to feature in the book if it happens? Will you use a random selection process out of the entries that qualify as suitable or will it be judged by preference of expression or general aesthetic/creativity? Is it necessary to have your full face showing- what if it’s obscured with something? Does it have to be a bright white background or would off-white or cream be acceptable?

    • All the photos submitted will be screened to make sure they fit the brief of a white/off-white background [as close to white as possible please!] – then those that are will be forwarded to Dave Brown.

He then plans to use as many as is logistically possible. To say more about the means in which they’ll be used would spoil the surprise. I imagine there may be images we send to him that will not feature – this will be at the discretion of Dave, Noel & Canongate. We are merely hanging on the branch of the Scribble Tree trying to give you a leg-up!

      • Hmm…I’m wondering if I’ll have to get somone to hold up a white bed sheet behind me.

It’s good that lots of faces might feature in the book. 😀

        What a lovely metaphor.

Are we allowed to send a few different pictures or just one? Because I have a couple of different ideas!

  11. Hey,
Does it matter if the photo is portrait or landscape? Or does it have to be portrait style?
    This is fantastic.

  12. In terms of sizing, would the example of Dave’s photo be a good size to aim for?

  13. I reckon it’s safest to include the outside edges of your hair if you can. If your hair is mahoosive, then there’s no need!

    • Okay, thanks- but I mean more the actual size(?) Like how it appears on my monitor- would that be a decent size to base mine on?

      Like

      • Jenny, I would probably aim for something a wee bit larger than the picture of Dave in the main post above (although obviously I have no idea how big your monitor is!)

        Like

      • So, perhaps something more the size of that image of the front cover of the book, for example? Or larger than that?

I’ve sent in my entry! Hope it works well enough, since I had to use the bathroom as a studio–only white walls I’ve got.

Thanks again to VO for bringing us this opportunity and to Noel and Dave for coming up with such a cool, creative, and generous way to potentially involve fans. Can’t wait to see what they have in mind! 😀

  20. so I don’t have a computer currently, and my camera is in my friends car right now. but I have my iPhone, do you think the resolution is high enough? it’s the only shot I got so I wanted to at least try to get in his book! I’ll be pretty bummed if I don’t try at all.

    • There’s no harm in trying. The only thing we can say for certain is that if you don’t send a photo at all you definitely won’t be included 😉
