Today’s Government Inspector

With the preview shows of the Government Inspector well underway and the official press night only two days away, the airwaves are starting to fill up with news about the play.

Julian Barratt features in a new interview released by the Young Vic, in which he and his co-stars Doon Mackichan and Kyle Stoller discuss their relative approaches to TV and stage work. Julian also describes how playing the character of the Mayor compares with the multitude of Mighty Boosh characters he’s played in the past (and hopefully the future!).

Director of the Government Inspector, Richard Jones, has been interviewed today too, by the Evening Standard. He talks about his approach to directing (“I like imaginative things – productions that stir me, imaginatively, or make me feel like I’m hallucinating”), his nervousness about casting an inexperienced stage actor in the lead role and his worries about the first 15 minutes of the play. “At the moment, the first 15 minutes aren’t funny,” he says. To read Richard Jones interview in full take a look here.

We’ll be bringing you more news about the play, which also features Fergus Craig, as it happens!
