Followers of James Cook can’t fail to have noticed the extent of his Latino live performances recently.

A few weeks ago Cook completed an epic three live shows in 24 hours in Buenos Aires, and earlier this week he played a gig at La Oreja Negra in the same city. If you happen to live in Argentina and you’ve missed him so far, don’t despair! You can still catch him later this week: on Friday he’s performing at La Belle Epoque in Cordoba. Fabulously off-kilter comedian Joey Page is heading up to Leeds for two gigs on Thursday!

Joey will be performing at The Oak (2 Otley Road, Headingly, Leeds 6) and The Library (Woodhouse Lane, Hyde Park, Leeds 2) as part of The House of Fun Comedy Club. Also on the bill is qualified GP and international stand up comic, Paul Sinha, plus comperes Barry Dodds and Dave Twentyman. Snuff Box has been added to Netflix Instant Play.

Currently only available to American Netflix subscribers, Snuff Box in its entirety is available in DVD form as well as in an instant stream.

The series, starring Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher as a hangman and his assistant, and featuring guest appearances from Richard Ayoade, Alice Lowe and more, has gained quite a cult following in the States. This latest addition follows Snuff Box’s initial launch in the U.S., which in addition to the U.S. DVD release included a promotional tour in Los Angeles and New York late last year.

Of course, UK Peelers feeling left out can always pick up a copy for themselves at the TVO Amazon Store.

Did you know that today, 4th February, is National Libraries Day? It’s a day dedicated to raising the profile of the humble library, via a series of celebratory events. To find out what’s been going on in your local area visit the National Libraries Day website.

Under the guise of Sue & The Unicorn, Sue Denim has written and recorded a song about books to mark this special day. What’s more, she’s very kindly sent to us to share with you.

Robots Still On The Town

Our favourite colourful ladies are going to be hitting the stage in London next week!

Robots In Disguise will be found playing for their lives (nothing new there!) at the Lexington in Islington on Friday 10th February.

This gig is just one of many to come that are slamming recent allegations that RiD are no more. After both Sue Denim and Dee Plume have tweeted out stating that they are still going strong, we can reassure each and every one of their fans that we have definitely not seen the last of them!

Along with the announcement of this gig, past pledgers have been contacted regarding the promised Launch Party that was to take place after the release of Happiness vs Sadness. It’s right to question what happened to this aforementioned gig and all pledgers have been sent apologies and offered a complementary guest ticket to a gig of their choice to compensate – London being one included in that!

Our good friend Hayden Black, takes part in the latest Web of Intrigue’s podcast talking about Goodnight Burbank, his new screenplay Zohmbi and his brand new project Teensy Tweets.

This new project will feature Hayden’s tweets but spoken by real-life birds! Hayden will of course be providing the voices of the birds, but will use footage of real birds. To find out more about this head over to the facebook page.

Luxury Round-Up: The Final!

The last couple of weeks have been rich and giddy with Noel Fielding news, thanks to his high profile media presence for the launch of Luxury Comedy. We’ve endeavoured to keep you in the loop throughout with regular updates, and while the launch phase is now winding down there are still a few new snippets to share with you.

First up is an interview from Thursday with Richard Bacon on BBC 5Live. In the interview Noel talks about Luxury Comedy and people’s reaction to it, his book The Scribblings of a Madcap Shambleton and why he and Julian always refused to compromise (amongst many other things!). You can listen to the show for a further 5 days on iPlayer; Noel appears at 0:40:49.

Noel also appeared on Lauren Laverne’s show on BBC 6Music on Thursday. He discusses the complexity of Luxury Comedy, his working relationship with Serge (Kasabian), and explains why he wants to crawl inside one of David Hockney’s paintings to sleep. Then there’s a short section on Gemma Cairney’s show on BBC 1Xtra in which Noel talks about his favourite TV shows, past and present. You can listen to it by clicking here. Noel’s on at 1:11:40.

Finally, E4 are continuing to update their Luxury Comedy microsite and have just posted some fab behind-the-scenes photos from the show. Take a peek at them here.

As you may have spotted, the public response to episode 2 of the show, which aired last night, has been tremendously positive, with both fans and those who were initially less sure agreeing that this week’s episode was a blinder. If you haven’t watched it yet it’s available on 4oD here; take a look, and then try telling us it’s not awesome!

Jamie: A Work In Progress

An exciting new development in the world of Colin Hoult has been announced: a brand new one man play.

Jamie: A Work In Progress tells the story of a lonely security guard working for a company whose name he can no longer recall, who fills his nights solving puzzles and collecting animal facts whilst dreaming of a love lost long ago.

The show is performed for the very first time at Colin’s regular haunt, The Leicester Square Theatre, on February 27th, and tickets can be purchased from the venue’s website for just £5 right here.

Don’t forget, Colin also brings back his New Adventures to the same venue in March, and is set to launch the Ultimate Carnival Of Monsters at the Udderbelly in May. He has also just recorded his own radio pilot alongside Stephen Evans, Dan Snelgrove and Zoe Gardner, and a guest appearance in Red Dwarf, which will air this Autumn. Luxury Comedy: Have Your Say About Episode 2

Last week’s launch post for Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy elicited more comments and more views than any other post we’ve published on The Velvet Onion. The views that were posted here were overwhelmingly positive, with a small smattering of negative comments to spice things up. Thanks to those of you who took the time to send us your reviews; they were appreciated by the team behind the show.

In the wider world beyond TVO Luxury Comedy provoked strong reactions of every type (surely better than no reaction!). So we thought it would be interesting to see how episode 2 stacks up for you lovely people. What did you think of the 2nd show in the series? Did it reinforce why you loved it or why you didn’t? How did it compare to episode 1? What were your favourite bits? Your favourite characters? Any that you missed this time around? We’d love to know what you think.

First though, some ground rules: It’s fine to not like something, but please keep your comments constructive. We won’t tolerate extreme personal attacks on the people behind Luxury Comedy, the fans of the show or the people who have taken the trouble to share their comments with us. Please respect this.

Incidentally, we won’t be doing this every week, but given how unique the show is we reckoned people might need at least a couple of episodes to figure things out – so we’re providing the opportunity for you to compare and contrast the first two.
