Simon And The Beast

23 Jan

The Midnight Beast returns to E4 this evening, and once again, Simon Farnaby is in tow.

The first series of the cult hit based around the YouTube comedy rap sensations aired back in 2012, with TVO regular Ben Gregor (Blake’s Junction 7, Ant Muzak, The Wingnut Tapes) at the helm.  Since then, Ben’s gone on to make his first movie, All Stars, and has been replaced by Screenwipe veteran Al Campbell (best known for his alter ego, Barry Shitpeas).

As ever with the Beast, the series will be accompanied by an album of songs from the show, Shtickheads, due out in March.  You can see a preview trailer and the lead track below.

To promote the show, TMB have spoken to RWD Mag over yonder, whilst Farnaby – who plays hapless neighbour Sloman – appeared in today’s edition of Metro, in which he had very nice things to say about the other TMB in comedy.

The Midnight Beast Series 2 airs from 10pm tonight on E4, and will be available on 4oD soon after transmission.

A new feature film will include some familiar faces in the new year.

The movie from Vertigo Films is called All Stars, and features Got To Dance winner, Akai Osei-Mansfield.

It will be directed by Ben Grogor, who directed Midnight Beast and the sadly-forgotten ITV sitcom No Heroics (which starred a plethora of Booshdom faces). In the upcoming feature All Stars he will be working with Simon Farnaby and Alex Kirk, who will be appearing in cameos.

Currently in filming, All Stars is planned for release in Spring 2013. To keep up to date on the latest news about the movie, keep an eye on their IMDB page, plus we’ll be keeping you peeled on anything new when we find it!

If this is still not enough and you can’t handle the wait for any of this, then the whole first series is still viewable on 4OD for UK residents.

The forthcoming debut series of The Midnight Beast will be accompanied by a series of digital EP releases of songs from the show.

The comedy rap trio’s sketch packed six-part run begins on Thursday, July 5th, and features TVO’s very own Simon Farnaby in a supporting role.

It’s also directed by Ben Gregor [Wingnut Tapes, Ant Muzak etc etc] and produced by Mary Burke [Submarine, Bunny And The Bull] – but it’s real stars are The Midnight Beast themselves – Stefan Abingdon, Dru Wakely and Ashley Horne.

Every Thursday night, an EP of songs from that week’s episode will appear on iTunes for download – with links available directly from the band’s website homepage.

With a UK tour set for October [tickets on sale now], it might be worth getting to know the songs backwards so you’re well prepared for their live show – if it’s half as entertaining as this live performance on E4 last night, you won’t want to miss it!

The Midnight Beast airs July 5th at 10pm.  For the show trailer, see this earlier peeling.

The Beast Awakens

23 Jun

A new trailer for The Midnight Beast has been unleashed online.

The musical sitcom from E4 stars the cult internet sensations alongside our very own Simon Farnaby, and with it’s director [Ben Gregor – Blake’s Junction 7 + Other Shorts, The Wingnut Tapes] and producer [Mary Burke – Submarine, Bunny And The Bull] also flexing their Onion credentials, we’ve naturally marked this out as one to watch.

The Midnight Beast  premières July 5th.

Farnaby Is The Queen… Cos He’s Quirky!

Last week, we pointed you towards up and coming E4 sketch show The Midnight Beast, which is set to feature guest appearances from Simon Farnaby.

Now the musical sketch trio have uploaded a clip from the show to their official YouTube page, featuring Simon as you’ve never quite seen him before.

We’re used to seeing Farnaby in all manner of daft costumes, but in the build up to the Jubilee, he was the last person we were expecting to dress up like Queen Liz 2.0 – and his cameo appearances in this video are the icing on the cake for a rather brilliant rap summary of those poncy fools we’ve all seen in Camden, the Northern Quarter, or any other ‘trendy’ zone.

You can catch the video below…

The Midnight Beast will air on E4 this summer, directed by Ben Gregor, whose links with Booshdom go way back – together with Tim Plester, he created a trio of shorts featuring the likes of Farnaby, Tom Meeten, Steve Oram, Kevin Eldon, Waen Shepherd and Stephen Evans featuring famous stars of yesteryear in ordinary present day situations: Ant Muzak saw Adam & The Ants go late night shopping, Blake’s Junction 7 had the crew of the sci-fi classic stop off at a service station, and World Of Wrestling featured 70s Brit grapplers take a drunken night bus home.

Gregor then went on to make The Wingnut Tapes with Oram & Meeten, in which the Mancunian rave band attempted to unleash their concept album upon the world, before Ben headed up series of IdealNo Heroics and The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret.

With The Midnight Beast reuniting him with Farnaby, and the show being produced by Mary Burke (SubmarineBunny And The Bull), we’re going to be keeping a close eye on this one…
