Party With Rich

Our favorite American, Rich Fulcher, has been in party mode this weekend. Yesterday he joined Nemone on Radio 6 Music to help celebrate their 10th Birthday.

You can listen to his top tips on BBC iPlayer, Rich appears at 2 hours and 15 minutes but try the rest of the show too! It’s available until next Saturday.

Meanwhile, Vimeo are hosting the latest series of InputOutput, the music show Rich presented last year. There are also behind the scenes snippets and you can see it all here. Series one and two are also still available on 4OD.

Get High On DVD

High Road, the improvised stoner movie by Upright Citizens Brigade’s Matt Walsh is released today on DVD and Blu-ray.

Importantly for TVO, the movie features Rich Fulcher in its cast. Rich plays the part of the transvestite father of one of the film’s main characters – a role he was clearly born to play (“Hell-ooooooo!”).

Luxury Comedy, TVOoh-yeah…

We have reminded, teased and shouted about it enough and now the day has finally come – here is our exclusive documentary from set of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy.

Velveteers took cameras, mics and their bodies over to the set and probed the cast & creators of the out-of-this-world E4 show.

Over the past few weeks we have been teasing you with clips, and now at long last, you can see the video below!

Rich Fulcher has recently been the subject of two interviews.

Next Rich was interviewed by Matt J Horn about his appearance in Arthur Christmas. Rich tells how he got involved in making the film, what it was like to work on an animated feature and also you can find out what he and Matt Berry are planning for Adult Swim in America.

Rich Fulcher and Colin Hoult are set to appear on a charity bill this weekend.

Compared by Sara Pascoe, the event is in support of Get Connected – a free helpline for young people with problems.  Rich & Colin are joined on the bill by Brendon Burns, Ed Aczel, Carl Donnelly, Matt Lacey (of “Gap Yah” fame) and former Red Dwarf star Norman Lovett.

Tickets for the show at the Bloomsbury UCL Theatre on Saturday, February 11th are available now priced £15, with concessions and UCL member tickets available for £12.50.  Buy ‘em both here.

Colin Hoult is also set to appear at the Tristan Bates Theatre on Friday, February 10th with his intriguing sounding new band, Colin Hoult’s Great Beasts - and tickets are available now priced £8 (£6 cons).

S(no)w Boosh!

TVO has been inundated with fans telling us that The Boosh Film is on the way once again, after an interview with Noel Fielding outside the Evening Standard Film Awards appeared online.

In the video posted by The Press Association, which has since been picked up by a variety of news websites, Noel commented: “I saw Julian yesterday [Monday], we went sledging together.  So we were talking about a Boosh where we should get together and do a film, finally!  There’ll definitely be sledging in the Boosh film, there’ll have to be won’t there?”

Naturally, we at The Velvet Onion must stress that talking about a Boosh film, and it actually happening are two very different things.  The film has been in discussion stages for a long time, first drafts have been half-written, and what we do know at present is that The Mighty Boosh are on hiatus whilst Noel & Julian concentrate on their own solo projects.

Whilst any news of the duo getting back together is positive, it’s good to remember that they have not broken up, nor have they fallen out – and of course, when they are together they will discuss the very thing that binds them.

The Boosh will return, but we just wanted to remind you that we may all be waiting a little while longer yet…

Instant Snuff

Snuff Box has been added to Netflix Instant Play.

Currently only available to American Netflix subscribers, Snuff Box in its entirety is available in DVD form as well as in an instant stream.

The series, starring Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher as a hangman and his assistant, and featuring guest appearances from Richard Ayoade, Alice Lowe and more, has gained quite a cult following in the States. This latest addition follows Snuff Box’s initial launch in the U.S., which in addition to the U.S. DVD release included a promotional tour in Los Angeles and New York  late last year.

Of course, UK Peelers feeling left out can always pick up a copy for themselves at the TVO Amazon Store.

Luxury Returns

As we begin to round up our Luxury Comedy Takeover week, and put the finishing touches to our behind the scenes documentary, the worst kept secret in all of Booshdom has finally popped out today – Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy is to return next year.

Following ratings success and the majority of critics loving the show’s surreal aesthetic, E4 have ordered a second run for Noel & Nigel Coan’s madcap sketch show.

News outlets have started to pick up on the story, most notably DigitalSpy, who quoted Noel’s hopes to make the second series “more like a Wednesday morning”.  We can’t wait.

Meanwhile you can continue to see the first run of episodes premièring on E4 every Thursday night at 10pm.

Popcorn Fulcher

Rich Fulcher is set to take part in popular comedy night Popcorn Comedy this Thursday!

Rich, who can currently be seen entertaining audiences in Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, is listed alongside both Holly Walsh and Cardinal Burns.

Popcorn Comedy is described as being a mix of comedy video installations from various filmmakers and live comedy. Previous acts have been the likes of Adam Buxton, even Graham Linehan and Popcorn has been seen as a popular evening  in London for most comedy fans!

A Luxurious Takeover!

This week sees the launch of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, and naturally, TVO wanted to mark this occasion with a bang.

We’ve already given you exclusive preview images of the show, but now we can confirm our Luxury Comedy Takeover is officially underway!

Over the coming days, we’ll be bringing you exclusive interviews with the people behind the show, profiles on familiar faces, a review of tonight’s exclusive press-screening and that all important first episode and much more.

The biggest news of all is the ultimate secret we’ve been keeping since the summer – when The Velvet Onion visited the set of Luxury Comedy for two days armed with a hi-def video camera, a microphone and the best intentions to bring you a unique peek behind the scenes on the show.

Naturally, the main drive of behind-the-scenes features belong to our friend, Joey Page, who has been crafting his own short for the dvd release of the show later this year – and we’ll be bringing you more on that in due time.  For now, though, we have our own exclusive and candid video interviews with Noel, Mike, Tom, Dave, Joey, Kim and Rich for you to savour – and whilst you wait for those to emerge in all their hi-def glory later this week, we’ll be whetting your appetites for the show itself every day until then.

Fond Farewell To Tiny Acts

Rich Fulcher wowed Soho audiences this week with Tiny Acts of Rebellion at London’s Soho Theatre, and Velveteer Ashley was there on Wednesday to capture the whole thing. We don’t yet know if the show will return, but if it doesn’t, you can read her review of its last stand below!

The lights of the grandiose Soho Theatre dimmed as Rich Fulcher’s booming American voice overtook the room. Fulcher, as energetic as he’s come to be known, excitedly jumped onto the stage, ushering in the beginning of his Tiny Acts of Rebellion show.

Having only seen Edinburgh warm-up gigs in the summer of 2011, I went into the theatre unsure of what to expect from the Fulch. His turnout was impressive; in addition to what appeared to be an almost sold out theatre, TVO regulars Tony Way and Simon Farnaby were in attendance as well!

As the video installations commenced, Fulcher, addressing his Tiny Actors as such, explained his rebellious mantra. A Tiny Actor, one who actively commits Tiny Acts of Rebellion, needs little training to accrue such a title. “Protests take months”, Fulcher explained, “Whereas unbuckling your seatbelt on an aeroplane takes only a few seconds!” His enticing proposition appeals to the looming, underlying laziness within us all. Noel Takes Over The Guardian!

To celebrate the imminent arrival of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy to E4, The Guardian newspaper has allowed Noel Fielding to take over The Guide.

Mongrels Axed By BBC3

It’s a sad day at TVO, as we join those mourning the loss of BBC Three’s Mongrels - which it was confirmed would not be returning today.

It’s creator, Adam Miller, took to the show’s official Twitter page to reveal the news to fans, stating that: “a decision that has been made based on the fact that apparently you need more than two people watching a programme to make it successful. Crazy talk.”

Speculation about the show’s future began due to a string of re-commissions made by controller Zai Bennett for the channel late last year, when Mongrels was not amongst them.  At the time, Bennett took to Points Of View, to suggest that the reason the show’s future had not yet been decided was because it was still airing, even though other programming then airing had been granted additional runs at the time.

Sadly, Mongrels has joined How Not To Live Your Life in the scrap-heap of a once great comedic stockpile from the channel which gave birth to The Mighty Boosh tv series, but has been faced with slashed budgets and an increasing reliance on imports, repeats and reality television.  We at TVO cannot say we’re surprised, but we’d be lying if we said we were understanding of the decision – especially now the show is reaching international audiences as well as gaining a healthy cult following in the UK.

The Mongrels team, many of whom we interviewed back in November, were a fine band of extremely talented men and women, including actors, puppeteers, writers, directors, producers and a strong technical crew who brought so many memorable characters to life over the course of sixteen episodes.  Going forward, TVO shall continue to try and cover the work of these talents in their new adventures in front of, and behind the cameras – and we would like to thank them all for their support of TVO as well as the fantastic comedy they created.  After all, breaking up is such a faff… and we’re sure whatever is on the horizon for the Mongrels team will be worth the wait.

Mongrels is dead.  Long live Mongrels.

Ask NME About Luxury Comedy

Like us, the NME appears to be getting more than a bit excited about the impending launch of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy.

Fast on the heels of their Christmas interview with Noel and Kasabian, this week’s issue of the magazine includes a feature about Luxury Comedy in which they provide a run-down of the main characters from the show.  This includes:

Noel: An extreme version of himself who sits at a desk in a jungle treehouse in the middle of a forest
Andy Warhol:  Noel’s cleaner, a naive robotic Warhol, played by Tom Meeten
Smooth: A cynical, deadpan anteater and Noel’s butler, played by Mike Fielding
Dolly: A fashionista Nico-type character who gets on Noel’s nerves but is also his best friend (described by Noel as “a bit like Vince”), played by Dolly Wells
The Audience: A strange character who processes mashed potato through his body into shapes, accompanied by narration from Doorag, his sidekick.
The Aliens: Two aliens who travel down to earth in a biscuit tin and play havoc in a suburban English garden.
Lysergic Casserole: A tripped out rock band who are stuck inside their guitar case. Played by Noel and Rich Fulcher, and from what we’ve seen very, very funny
Diamond Back: A country and Western singer from Putney who has a thousand eyes and blue skin.
Fantasy Man: Don Quixote in an electronic world. He’s always getting broken out of his fantasy world into reality
Dondylion: A Cockney spiv lion with a positive outlook on his less than positive situation
New York Cop: He has a knife wound and two bullet holes in his arm that talks to him like a partner

In the article, Serge (Kasabian) also talks about some of the music on the show. He describes the theme tune as being inspired by Tusk by Fleetwood Mac and sounding, “like a kids’ theme tune…like Rainbow.” Other songs from the series are described by Serge as “a bit like Silver Apples and Suicide with a strange kind of folk vocal” (The Decision), “sort of Beefheartesque” (Swingball Blues) and “a bit like Prince and Barry White” (Strawberry Sunrise).

Fulcher Rides Boris

Rich Fulcher & The Fix’s Harry Deansway have met up with some many friendly, familiar faces to bring a song highlighting the  diversity of London’s Boris Bikes!

Fulcher goes riding with Steve Oram, Richard Glover, The Brett Domino Trio, along with other great comics that we recognise from the the previous Fulchfest last Christmas!

Rich Fulcher Competition Winner!

Thank you to everyone who entered our competition to win a pair of tickets to see Rich Fulcher live at the Soho Theatre next week.

In recognition of Rich’s Tiny Acts of Rebellion stage show, we asked you to suggest a tiny act of rebellion that you could carry out at the theatre. We had some cracking entries, but eventually we decided on our winner. Congratulations go to Simon Bell whose tiny act was to, “swap socks mid-performance.” It was so silly and random the judges were unanimous in awarding Simon the winning entry. Well done to Simon and we hope you enjoy the show!  You may even want to try out your tiny act of rebellion while you’re there…

2011 Pops Off With a Bang!

October began buzzing with Booshy delights. The month’s start saw previews for the upcoming 25th series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks.  Meanwhile, Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher continued on their North American Snuff Box DVD tour in Canada, Los Angeles, and Fulcher in NYC.

While London Madcaps prepared to get their books scribbled by Noel Fielding and Dave Brown, the BBC were busy at work filming the Victorian spoof drama Bleak Old Shop of Stuff. The series, starring TVO regulars Katherine Parkinson and James Bachman, as well as Stephen Fry, is meant to start airing in the New Year. The Sightseers, the Alice Lowe/Steve Oram film collaboration was also underway by mid-October. For the nostalgic at heart, cult DJ extrodinaire Pogo released “Zoo Zoo”, a Mighty Boosh mash-up.

The first of four TVO Scribblings wristband competitions was announced, with peelers in London, and soon thereafter Edinburgh vying for guaranteed admission to meet the Shambletons. Psycho Delia mixed some tunes, and IAMX fans were pleased to see the band’s triumphant return to a London stage in one hell of a show! Friend of TVO, Hayden Black, saw Goodnight Burbank, his series that started as webisodes with cameos from the likes of Rich Fulcher and John Barrowman, make its North American televisual debut. Familiar face Alan Partridge, the infamous alter ego of Steve Coogan, announced his returning to both radio and TV.

Blackpool’s Comedy Carpet was unveiled, Booshy jaunts included! Lucky American peelers got the opportunity to catch the Matt Berry/Steve Agee film Angry White Men as it enjoyed a limited release in California and North Carolina. In yet another bout of nostalgia, Vlad the Impaler returned to the handlebars of Serge and the rest of Kasabian’s musical bicycle.
