Matt @ Meltdown
As part of our IT Crowd-related series of special posts, TVO reader, annat, has very kindly penned us this write-up of Matt Berry’s unnanounced appearance at Duckworth Lewis Method’s gig last week. Here’s what she told us about the show:

“The wonderful Matt Berry made a surprise appearance at the Meltdown festival on the South Bank on 17th June to join the festivities at the Duckworth Lewis Method’s fun and fantastical gig. The band is a collaboration between Irishmen Thomas Walsh (Pugwash) and Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy). Of additional relevance to IT Crowd Week on The Velvet Onion is the fact that Hannon is, of course, also composer of the theme music for The IT Crowd (and Father Ted).
The eponymous album takes cricket as its theme, but includes songs that are by turns funny and foot-stomping, haunting and poignant. Matt had contributed vocals to the album, and on Thursday night he reprised this role, joining in the chorus of the hilarious “Jiggery Pokery” and then adding his trademark fruity voice to the dreamy “Mason on the Boundary”. The album songs were followed by an eclectic mix of hits and covers with an even more tenuous connection to cricket. By the second encore there was dancing in the aisles and Matt, clearly having as much fun as everyone else, came on-stage again for ELO’s “Mr Blue Sky” and a hilarious boogie to the theme of Test Match Special!
An unforgettable night…. “
