A Luxury Round-Up

6 Jan

The momentum is picking up on the pre-launch phase of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, so we thought it was a good time to give you an end-of-week round-up of what’s out there.

First up are the appetite-whetting trailers that have been peppered across E4′s schedule this week. So far there are four official executions available on youtube (which you can see below). There are number of shaky-handed unofficial ones too, but we reckon it’s best to wait and see them how they’re meant to be seen: all bright colours and vibrant silliness!

Next up is the Scottish listings mag, The List, which today published an interview with Noel and Luxury Comedy director, Nigel Coan, in which they talk about the show and his comedy in general. Noel provides an insight into one of the new characters from the series, Roy Firkin the chocolate finger: “After his wife’s died, he visits a prostitute and all he wants to do is cuddle. He takes his wedding photos with him. It’s so dark, but, at the same time, it’s a fucking chocolate finger. You have to suck people in with the reality of those emotions.” To read the interview in full click here.

A quick one for those of you who have so far failed to spot the launch date for the show: It’s 26th January (on e4)!!

Finally, many of you will have spotted that Noel has created a dedicated Twitter account for his Luxury Comedy twitterage. You can follow him at @luxurycomedy. So far he’s told us that he and Serge Pizzorno (Kasabian) have formed the band Loose Tapestries and an album cover has been shot. We reckon we’re going to be in for a treat with that one!

It goes without saying that we’ll be sniffing out all the latest news and information about the show as the promotional campaign steps up a gear (look out for billboard ads from next week and ads on Channel 4). We also have some exclusive TVO shiny nuggets to share with you soon!

So keep peeling to stay ahead of the crowd…

Competition Time! Win Your Fill Of Fulcher

6 Jan

As we’ve mentioned previously Rich Fulcher is bringing his Edinburgh 2011 show Tiny Acts of Rebellion to the Soho Theatre in London for a short run, Monday 16th – Saturday 21st January.

The show is based on Rich’s Tiny Acts of Rebellion book, which offers a host of bizarre and downright silly suggestions for how you can “stick it to the man!” If you haven’t read the book yet take a look at Rich’s TAR website to give you an idea of what it’s all about.  And then we recommend buying the book too.

If this on its own wasn’t awesome enough, those lovely people at the Soho Theatre have very kindly offered us a pair of tickets to see the show FOR FREE!

To win the tickets all you have to do is email us your suggestions for tiny acts of rebellion that you could carry out at the theatre (not the Soho Theatre, obviously!). Please email your entries to submit@thevelvetonion.com by 1pm GMT next Wednesday, 11th January. We’re looking for the funniest and most inventive suggestions, so get your creative crazy juices flowing!

There’s only one entry allowed per person; the winning entry will be selected and notified by 10am on 12th January. The winner MUST be able to provide their own transport to the show, and be 100% certain they can make it. For all the legal T&Cs, see below. Good luck!

If you’re not lucky enough to win our competition but you still fancy a seriously funny night out, you can book tickets to the show by clicking here.

This competition offers a pair of tickets to one of the performance of Rich Fulcher’s Tiny Acts of Rebellion at the Soho Theatre in London. Winners can select their preferred date (subject to availability) from 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 & 21 January 2012 (show starts at 21:45). This competition is being run entirely by The Velvet Onion, with prizes organised and distributed by the Soho Theatre. One entry per person. Winners must be at least 18 years of age. Any entrants found making multiple entries from the same IP address will be disqualified, and banned from entering further competitions run by The Velvet Onion. Furthermore, any winning entrants who fail to turn up to the event without giving The Velvet Onion prior warning of at least 24 hours notice will be banned from entering further competitions run by The Velvet Onion. All entries must be received via submit@thevelvetonion.com by 1pm GMT on 11th January. The Velvet Onion will not accept entries as replies to our Facebook/Twitter pages, messages on our forum, comments to posts or emailed to any other email address. The judge’s decision is final. Name, email address and contact phone number will be required with your entry, and your email will not be passed on to a third party beyond the Soho Theatre.
