Penelope Princess of Pets – Coming Soon

15 Apr

As we mentioned earlier this month, Julian Barratt stars in this new one-off comedy special from the mind of ‘Flight Of The Conchords’ star Kristen Schaal. For a sneak preview watch the short trailer below. The pilot will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 11pm on Wednesday 21 April.

Ad a bit of Boosh

15 Apr

Most UK fans are familiar with the Boosh boys more recent contributions to the world of advertising, but some of you may be less aware of some of their more historical endeavours. As it’s been a quiet news day at Boosh HQ, we thought it was a good time to share what we’ve unearthed (apologies in advance to anyone featured who rather forget this particular moment in their career!).

Most of us know about Julian Barratt’s More Th>n ads (indeed, many have been persuaded to insure the car or pet they may or may not own by his silky northern tones – apparently sales if insurance soared when this More Th>n campaign broke)

but not everyone knows that he featured as a ‘freelance scientist’ in a popular TV ad for Metz (a premium packaged spirit made by Martini) in the late 1990s.At the time the agency responsible for the ad claimed that they hadn’t quite nailed ‘the judder’ with this one, and swiftly replaced our Man from Leeds with a spooky Judderman.

Then there’s Rich’s Subway voice-overs that make eating rude-looking sandwiches kind of cool….

…Matt Berry’s infamous and quite brilliant voice-overs for the Natural Confectionery Company, which launched a few classic playground catchphrases and won endless industry awards for its creators….

…not forgetting Matt’s cameo in another award-winning ad, this time for BBC3

Finally, though there’s this classic for Nescafe featuring a very young and rather acrobatic Tom Meeten

We suspect that there are others out there, hidden away collecting cobwebs on youtube.
If you know of one, we’d love to hear about it!

More Rich Down Under

As Rich Fulcher and Eleanor continue their take-over of the Southern hemisphere, Rich has announced he’ll be signing copies of his book, Tiny Acts of Rebellion, this Saturday 17th April at the Melbourne Town Hall, 5-6pm.   As well as signed books, exclusive Eleanor tour t-shirts will also be available, so it’s worth heading down there to see the man before he “leaves Australia forever” (his words, not ours!).

This week is also your final chance to catch him live at the following venues:

Apr 15: Melbourne – Victoria Hotel – Banquet Room
Apr 16: Melbourne – Victoria Hotel – Banquet Room
Apr 17: Melbourne, VIC – Peter Cook Bar
Apr 17: Melbourne – Victoria Hotel – Banquet Room
Apr 18: Melbourne – Victoria Hotel – Banquet Room

For anyone who doesn’t live nearby don’t cry, because you can still buy the very brilliant Tiny Acts of Rebellion at the Velvet Onion Amazon Store for a pitifully low £3.49.  Rich won’t be there though, I’m afraid.
