Time-Out For Mighty Boosh

1 Mar

There’s a nifty new interview with Noel up at the TOC Blog about the Mighty Decider.

Thanks to @mrs_the_monarch for tweeting this one.

Missing Scene

1 Mar

Alice Lowe has joined The Actor, Kevin Eldon in a new sketch show pilot entitled Missing Scene.

The pilot is the brainchild of comedian David Bussell, Ben Ricketts and Matthew Stott – who has previously written for the likes of David Armand and Mitchell & Webb.

Intended to be touted around the various networks to generate interest, at present, it is not planned for broadcast.  Of course, if we hear of a way for you to see it, we’ll let you now immediately.  Anything with Eldon involved has to be worth a look, and the bonus of shiny shiny Alice just makes this all the more mouthwatering.

You can follow the progress of the show from pilot to (hopefully) greenlit series at The World Won’t Listen.

The IT Crowd 4.0 Tickets

1 Mar

Tickets for The IT Crowd 4.0 are now up for grabs via SRO Audiences.  Tickets are extremely limited and are allocated based on three preferential dates – registering interest does not guarantee entry!

Filming takes place at Pinewood Studios, every Friday from 26th March, for five weeks.  Doors open at 7pm, except on 16th April, when doors open at 5.45pm.  This suggests the possibility of two shows being filmed that evening back to back – possibly due to the amount of location work that will already be completed and simply shown on screen to the assembled audience.

To register interest, visit SRO’s website and try turning it off and on again.

Revenge Of The Stealth Fielding

1 Mar

Another day, another secret Noel Fielding gig – our favourite pointy one making yet another appearance on the London comedy circuit last night.

This was the second secret show of the weekend, and there may be more in the pipeline.  Stealth Fielding, as we’ve dubbed him, first aroused our interested when he appeared at Amused Moose on February 6th, and has continued to gig sporadically and unannounced ever since.

The reason for this sudden burst of activity? Noel’s warming-up for his forthcoming Teenage Cancer Trust gig on March 23rd.

The event takes place at the Royal Albert Hall and Fielding joins Jimmy Carr and Rhod Gilbert on the bill in the middle of a star-studded week of events. There are limited numbers of tickets still available via Ents24.

Noel is also set to appear on a star-studded line up at the Channel 4 Comedy Gala at London’s O2 Arena, in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital on March 30th.  Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster, and the show will be recorded for broadcast on Channel 4 and a DVD release in da foocha.

Two of our contributors were on hand to see the shiny man in action, and had this to say…

“I have to take my hat off to Mr Fielding for such a productive week. A heroic highlight at the NMEs as Vlad, an award for best DVD (along with his Boosh buddies), a live webchat and 2 secret gigs. And on top of all that, he managed to fit in writing more new material! Good man. In summary then – last night’s gig rocked! The proportion of new material is edging up and the newer jokes are growing, evolving, forming new layers and connections with the silliest reaches of his psyche. Fun, energetic and joyful, with a grand finale of one of the most bizarrely brilliant comedy songs I’ve heard in some time, involving Monkey Edwards, Noel’s 80 year old neighbour on drums and an irate skinless Fielding jumping through the French windows. Don’t ask me how, but somehow it works.”

“Yes, I saw him two days in a row, yes, it may seem like a bit too much, yes there is probably the thought of ‘But you’re just going to see the same things again’. All true. But, if you did see his performance on Sunday you would understand why it was 100% worth it. If I was impressed on the Saturday then I can’t express how I felt about the Sunday. He or course opened with, ‘I’ve got a face’, ‘Two sailors missing their wives’ etc etc, but that doesn’t matter. That was for about 5minutes and then he, to put it simply, knocked out fresh jokes left, right and center. He pulled out a piece of scrunched up paper with his new material and said that some of his jokes he wrote on the day. He hadn’t tweeted any this time though.
New to me from the Saturday was his story about getting stung by a Jellyfish in St Lucia, he also had some superb improvised moments where he imagined that the cheering in the upstairs bar from the Canada-Australia Hockey match was really for him and they all had glasses to the floor listening. He completely stormed with these little comments but of course seemed slightly angry with himself and even said that his improvised work gets the biggest laugh but is useless to him. The glint of pure joy in his face when he would try out a new written joke and it would be successful was priceless though. Each new anecdote was polished, at just the right pace, no stumbling, it was the comedy that we loved from the start at it’s best.
If you don’t get the chance to see him during a warm-up, then I highly recommend heading down to the big TCT, as well as it being for a brilliant cause and to see some great acts, it’s also a chance to see a fresh, new Le Fielding at his best. You will not be disappointed.”

More news as, and when we receive it.  Unfortunately we cannot tell you when or where Noel will be gigging next – part of the reason he is doing these shows unannounced is to gauge a genuine audience reaction, and a room full of his faithful fans is naturally going to be biased.  However, if you’re out and about in London over the next few weeks, and hear there’s a ‘special guest’ on a comedy bill, it may be worth taking a look.  You’re almost guaranteed great comedy regardless, and you may just bag Noel as a cheeky bonus!
